‘Happy Birthday’ trees from DFCC

DFCC Bank recently launched a long-term sustainability drive to plant a tree on the birthdays of its staff members every year, in collaboration with Reforest Lanka, a non-profit organization committed to extending the forest cover of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, all staff members celebrating their birthdays in a particular month will receive a personalized invitation to join the tree-planting campaign at the beginning of the month. After their respective trees are planted, each staff member will receive an e-dedication showing on a Google map the exact location of where the tree was planted.

Additional trees will also be planted in areas identified as needing reforestation.

Commenting on this initiative, Arjun Fernando, CEO of DFCC Bank, commended the DFCC Sustainability Unit for successfully launching the campaign. ‘This initiative has helped to instil a greater commitment towards protecting the planet and operating as a responsible corporate citizen internally which is in line with one of our core values: being socially responsible,” he added.

In January, 960 trees were planted in Aranayake, 160 of which were planted to commemorate staff birthdays. 1,000 more trees were planted alongside the Kaduwela – Kadawatha Highway in February, with over a100 of them being planted for staff birthdays. In addition, DFCC Bank planted 1,000 trees at the University of Jaffna premises in late February.
