Veteran Sri Lankan actress Swarna Mallawarachchi was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recently held 2017 International Festival of Asian Film (FICA), in Vesoul, France.

The film festival, which began on the 7th of February and concludes today (14th February), was held for the 23rd consecutive year, making it the longest running pan-Asian film festival held in Europe.

Swarna Mallawarachchi was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award, along with Iranian filmmaker Rakshan Bani-Etemad, during the opening ceremony held on the 7th.  A steady advocate for impoverished women, Mallawarachchi was seen dedicating the award to women who "strive to survive with dignity".

Known as the ‘Golden Star of Sinhala Cinema’, Mallawaarachchi has featured in a number of award winning films since her beginnings in the late 1960’s.
