A film adaptation of Rohana Wijeweera’s life

A film based on late JVP leader Rohana Wijeweera’s life and his role in Sri Lankan politics will be hitting local theatres soon. The film is named “Ginnen Upan Seethala” (Cold Born from Fire) and will be directed by Anuruddha Jayasinghe.
Kamal Addararachchi will bring life to the title role. Supporting roles are played by Jagath Manuwarna as Upatissa Gamanayake, Sujeewa Priyalal as Somawansa Amarasinghe and Sulochana Weerasinghe as Chithrangani Wijeweera.
Filming started on 17th January and still continues. Ranminithenna Cinema Village, Haldummulla, Ulapane and other locations are among the locations used for shooting.
Wijeweera founded the JVP in 1965. He was known for his commitment, organizational skills and oratory skills. He was captured by the security forces in 1989 during the second JVP insurrection and was killed under unclear circumstances.
