Archaeologists today (3rd April) excavated a site near Somawathiya, which is believed to be the place where the sacred Tooth Relic of Gautama Buddha was deposited prior to being enshrined at the ancient Mahatalakolawewa Temple in Medirigiriya.
The Central Cultural Fund determined the location during their latest archaeological excavation.
The excavators also unearthed old coins, foreign ceramic pieces and beads from the site.
