Sanofi Pasteur, a leading multinational pharmaceutical company and an expert in the development of vaccinations has developed a vaccine named ‘Dengvaxia’ after over two decades of research.
Having conducted tests on a number of patients in South East Asia and South America in the past few years, reports have revealed a 70% rate of effectiveness.
The vaccine has since been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO)
Nevertheless, the Health Ministry has stated, that the WHO has advised countries to use the vaccine “only if suitable.” The Ministry is currently carrying out investigations to determine if the vaccine is suitable for use in Sri Lanka.
Mexico, Brazil and the Philippines are among the countries where the vaccine has already been licensed.
