The Joined Opposition alleged that the Foreign Exchange Bill presented in Parliament by the Government was very similar to the one proposed by Erik Solheim, a former Norwegian Peace Envoy.
The Bill reportedly allows the Tamil Diaspora to invest locally without the Central Bank getting a say in the matter.
“Solheim mentioned this at an interview with ‘The Hindu’ soon after the election victory of President Maithripala Sirisena. He said the government should reach out to the Tamil Diaspora and get them to invest in Sri Lanka,” MP Bandula Gunawardane said.
