Insee Cement teams up with State Universities
Joint Research and Construction projects with Moratuwa, Ruhuna and Peradeniya
Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd, the Sri Lankan stakeholder of Insee Cement, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Universities of Moratuwa, Ruhuna and Peradeniya.
Accordingly, Insee Cement will work jointly with these state Universities to improve the innovation, research and construction sectors of Sri Lanka.
The MoU was signed between Janaka Weerakoon, Commercial Director of Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd, Prof Upul Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Ananda Jayawardena, Professor at the University of Moratuwa, and S. G. J. N. Senanayake, Professor at the University of Ruhuna. Administrative and Strategic Director, Charith Wijendra, as well as Marketing Project Head, Sanka Seneviratne, attended the event, representing Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd.
Speaking at this event, Weerakoon said, “We are well aware of our responsibility as the leading cement manufacturer in Sri Lanka. It is with this responsibility in mind that we decided to build partnerships with University undergraduates and innovators, who will carry the constant progress of the construction industry forward.”

As stated in the agreement, Insee Cement will partner with University students to explore solutions to the challenges faced by the construction industry of Sri Lanka today, due to the increased demand for infrastructure and urban development.
Accordingly, Insee Cement will award scholarships to six civil and environmental engineering students from each University every year, enabling them to engage in research related to the construction industry, and to apply the new knowledge in real world construction projects.
