National Honours laureates

The National Honours Investiture Ceremony was held at 6.00 pm yesterday (20th March) at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The highest honor conferred for his exceptionally outstanding and distinguished service to the nation was conferred on the late Pandith Amaradewa.

Dr. Sarath D. Gunapala and Siddhartha Kaul received the Sri Lanka Ranjana, which is awarded to non Sri Lankan citizens.

The Deshamanya title was awarded to Abbas Ali Akbar, Prof. Colvin Gunaratna, Dr. Devanesan Nesiah, Nandadasa Rajapaksha, Prof. Kingsley Muthumuni de Silva, Latha Walpola, Mineka Presantha Wickramasinghe, Prof. Priyani Soysa, Amaradasa Gunawardana and Tissa Devendra.

The Deshabandu title was awarded to Deivanayagam Easwaran, Dr. Lakshman Weerasena, Leslie Shelton Devendra, Captain M. G. Kularatne, Susanthika Jayasinghe, Ranjan Madugalle, Shan Wickremesinghe, Dr. Pabilis Silva and W. K. H. Wegapitiya.

The Vidyajothi title was awarded to Prof. Nimal Senanayake, Dr. Bandula Wijayarathna, Dr. Colvin Samarasinghe, Prof. Harendra de Silva, Prof. T. K. Nimal Padmasana, Prof. Errol Radcliffe Jansz, Prof. Lal Chandrasena, Prof. M. W. J. G. Mendis, Prof. M. M. R. Vaas Jayasekara, Prof. Sarath Kotagama and Prof. Tissa Vitarana.

Further, twenty two Kala Keerthi awards, seven Sri Lanka Shikamani awards, ten Vidyanidhi awards, thirteen Kalashuri awards, two Sri Lankathilaka awards and two Veera Prathapa awards were conferred.
