Sanath Jayasuriya is set to secure another term as the Head of the Cricket Selection Committee, while the board is looking at possible changes to the rest of the committe as their term is to expire on 1st May.
Asanka Gurusinha who was added to the selection committee recently is expected to stay on with Jayasuriya for another term, however the other three member’s positions in the board are uncertain.
The SLC is currently evaluvating a number of candidates to be included into the panel.
“We have got a number of names and we are currently evaluating them. But the biggest problem we have right now is their inability to dedicate time due to other commitments. Anyway, we will forward a list of names during the next few weeks to the Minister of Sports,” a top Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official said yesterday.
Among those in the current committee are Former wicketkeeper Romesh Kaluwitharana, Seam bowler Eric Upashantha and Head of Junior Selection Panel Ranjith Madurusinghe.
The National team’s record under the current Selection Committe has not been encouraging since taking up the poisition, where a 3-0 whitewash of Australia at home and T20 victories in South Africa and Australia proved to be the only high points.
Jayasuriya’s committee has also been criticised for their lack of consistency in selection as they have tried out a record 44 players in One-Day cricket during the last 12 months.
