SriLankan celebrates local art with ‘Speculo 2017’

SriLankan Airlines successfully hosted ‘Speculo 2017’, a painting and visual arts exhibition, from the 24th to the 26th February, at the J. D. A. Perera Gallery. The exhibition featured the works of many professional and amateur artists in Sri Lanka.
‘Speculo 2017’ was the first of its kind to feature around 350 artworks by a total of 80 professional local artists of esteemed repute, in a variety of categories. The exhibition was open to the public, and was graced by art enthusiasts, business leaders, government officials, students and members ofthe SriLankan Airlines team.

An all-island art competition was also hosted parallel to the exhibition, under the theme ‘My SriLankan Perspective’. School children from even remote areas such as Jaffna, Mannar, Bibile and Balangoda, as well as university students, professors, art teachers and members of the clergy from across the country, submitted their entries. Activities such as portrait sketching, mehendi art, and painting contests were also conducted during the exhibition.
The exhibition was an inspiration to artists, young and old, to showcase their work, and build national careers for themselves.SriLankan Airlines organized the event with the aim of providing local artists with a national platform to feature their artistic contributions to the country.
