The two main suspects, Mohomed Ivuhaim Sadiqq Abdul Haq and Mohomed Ivuhaim Shahid Abdul Haq, wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks were arrested by Nawalapitiya police yesterday, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara yesterday said.

According to SP Gunasekara. The two suspects happened to be brothers.

The CID released photographs last Thursday (25) of several suspects wanted in connection with Easter Sunday’s bomb attacks, including the names and the photos of the said two suspects.

Officers of the Gampola Police Division have initially received crucial information gathered by “Anuradhapura Police Station which has led to two arrests in Gampola police division and Nawalapitiya Police Division,” Gunasekara explained.

One of the suspects who were arrested is one M.N. Naflam, a resident of Pahala Waraka-Oya, Nawalapitiya. Following interrogations, the said suspect has led the Police to the next arrest. The next suspect who was arrested in Gampola was one Abdul Jamar Amisdeen, a resident of Kandy Road, Gampola.

“When Amisdeen was interrogated by the police, he has given information on the two brothers that CID was looking for,” Gunasekara said.

Finally, the Police was able to arrest the two main suspects hiding at a shoe shop near Nuwara-Eliya road, Gampola.

“This shoe shop is in a building with several stores. The two suspects were hiding in one of these stores,” Gunasekara said.

Police had then conducted a search operation inside the building with the assistance of the Special Task Force.

The Police Spokesman further said that the Police together with the military forces conducted a search operation of a house belonging to these brothers which is in the Mawanella area.

Gunasekara also said that a van belonging to these two suspects, number plate WP TH 7194 was also taken into custody by the Police. The van has been parked at a house in Nawalapitiya. The owner of the house has also been arrested.

The two main suspects were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department.
